Today launches a campaign highlighting the services available within Coventry in order to prevent the spread of this predominantly symptomless STI in line with the national strategy on the disease. The aim of the nationwide strategy is to: -
1) Prevent and control Chlamydia infection through early detection and treatment of symptomless infection;
2) Reduce onward transmission to sexual partners;
3) Prevent the consequences of untreated infection;
4) Test at least 25 percent of the sexually active under 25 population annually
Bus ticket advertising is highly effective at targeting the under 25 year old population, with 90% of students using buses once a week and 35% of the passenger audience aged 16 - 24. Both council and NHS initiated campaigns have marked a notable increase in service usage, directly attributed to a bus ticket campaign.
